What are your thoughts on aging?
Aging is a blessing. Each day that we are blessed to be part of the human experience is an opportunity. One to share the love, lessons, and experiences we have with those around us to deepen our connection to one another. The more I age, the more I appreciate the little things, give myself grace, enjoy moments of just being, and truly accept who I have become and how I got here. I am so grateful for each moment and decision along the path that has brought me to this exact place and time. Aging is beautiful.
What wonderful things can younger women look forward to at your age?
Younger women and girls, might think that it's scary getting older. Let's inspire them!Forties are the years where you know who you are, how you got here, and what you want in life (for the most part). You are more and more comfortable in your skin and accepting of the you that you've become, as well as those around you. It definitely makes life a bit easier when you accept rather than resist. You fit into a lot of crowds in your forties. You can be the "cool older lady" to the younger crowd, or the "not-so-bad" younger chick to the more mature crowd. It's a fun time to explore all that life has to offer. You generally (hopefully) have your sh!t together by 40, so you have the ability to do so many things that you've always wanted to do.
Share tips on how you celebrate yourself, what you do for fun, and self care.
To celebrate myself, I like to indulge in festivals that allow me to unplug and connect with myself, music, dance, community. A couple of my favorites that I've gone to multiple times are Manafest on the Big Island and California Roots in Monterrey. I also enjoy traveling solo and with my son and family. Cruises are always a go-to with family. I took my son on a Europe trip over the summer - Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland and Ireland. I did my first solo trip in 2023 to Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, and Malaysia. That trip (and usually once per year for 30-90 days), I do a social media detox to disconnect from the various media and connect deeper with myself and all that I love.
Share one experience/story. We all have life struggles. But the big share is how did you over come and lift yourself up? Advice to other women to empower them.
There are so many things I've overcome in life being a woman in the military through combat, quitting smoking after 16 years (that was a tough one), a long and painful infertility journey, and just the fear, self-doubt, self-sabotage, etc that I feel we all deal with at some point in life. One of the biggest struggles of my life was deciding to get divorced. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever made that I questioned and rode the emotional roller coaster for at least a year after. I ultimately made the best decision for my family (which still includes my ex-husband). Growing as a human is tough enough as it is. Growing apart as a couple and family is devastating. While the divorce was heart-breaking, and the road to recovering was rough, I was able to truly discover who I am and what I am here for. I am a much better person for everyone and everything in my life, and that includes me, Of life's many challenges, this one was the one that made me look deep inside to the core of who I am and get the most life lessons from, and for that I am grateful.
