Iʻm a Mother of 4, 2 girls and 2 boys. Grandmother of 7, 3 girls and 4 boys. Kumu Hula for Halau Hula O Pukaʻi kapuaokalani. Having students in Mililani, Kailua and Japan. Been with my partner for 20 years, he has been my best friend and partner. Reside in Mililani, originally from Waimānalo.
What are your thoughts on aging? Iʻm a fim believer of growing old with grace. I teach hula to elderly and I tell them that being in this stage of life is the best years. We already have the experience and understandings to move through life smoothly.
What wonderful things can younger women look forward to at your age? Younger women and girls, might think that it's scary getting older. Let's inspire them! The experience in life is like a promotion you start to lead younger people in the right direction.
Share tips on how you celebrate yourself, what you do for fun, and self care. I love to spend time in Napa and enjoy the quiet days and nights. I love football and Sports as well.
Share one experience/story. We all have life struggles. But the big share is how did you over come and lift yourself up? Advice to other women to empower them. I was in an abusive relationship, and I made the decision to move forward in my life.
What would you tell your 14-year-old self? Become a lawyer, you would be good at it. I remember saying I would be a buyer which I became. I think I would’ve enjoyed being a lawyer.
What is your definition of success? Success is how you influenced the younger generation in a positive way.
What is the best advice you have been given? Make the best out of every minute of the day.
Twenty years from now, when you look at these portraits we took together, what do you think you will say to yourself? At that age you have been through a lot and you still can smile.
