2025 ~ 40 Over 40

Pearls of Wisdom

Elsie Foster, 63

President, Foster Realty, Inc.

I tried the whole “retirement thing,” but it turns out I love my work way too much to stay away! So here I am, back in the game, helping clients, and enjoying every bit of it. I’m also busy with my nonprofit, where we make sure pets in the community have full bellies and happy tails. And just to keep life interesting, I decided to head back to college to finish my degree. Who says learning has an age limit? Not me!

What are your thoughts on aging?

The kids are grown, and now I get to truly enjoy the fruits of my labor. I’ve spent years working hard, raising a family, and giving back, so now I can focus on having fun, trying new things, and savoring the moments. It’s time for fun, laughter, and enjoying everything I’ve worked so hard to build.

What wonderful things can younger women look forward to at your age? Younger women and girls, might think that it's scary getting older. Let's inspire them!

Life doesn’t end when the children are grown or when your career hits its peak. It begins again. Donʻt rush through life or think your best years are behind you once you hit a certain age. Every stage has its own beauty. Work hard, love deeply, and invest in yourself because one day you’ll arrive at a point where you can look back with pride and look forward with excitement.

Share tips on how you celebrate yourself, what you do for fun, and self care.

I celebrate life with bike rides to the beach with my husband, regular massages, and plenty of travel. My favorite is a cruise out on the ocean with days of nothing but reading, eating, drinking, laughing, and enjoying each other.

Share an experience/story. We all have life struggles. But the big share is how did you over come and lift yourself up?

I was very young when I lost my father, and for a while, I was lost too. But resilience made me strong, independence made me unstoppable, and I’ve learned I can handle anything life throws my way.

What would you tell your 14-year-old self?

Stay stubborn, resourceful, and independent. It’ll drive poor Mom crazy, but set you up for an amazing life.
